Expecting a raise? See what a hike on this salary is really worth: the headline percentage and the in-hand percentage are not the same number.

The number you budget with. Rent, EMI and savings all come out of take-home, not out of CTC, so this is the figure worth knowing before you accept.

Two levers that change take-home at the same CTC

  1. The basic pay percentage. PF is 12% of basic, so a lower basic means a smaller deduction and more cash now, and a smaller corpus later. Try it under Assumptions.
  2. The tax regime. The new regime wins for most people without large exemptions. If you pay significant rent or a home loan, enter those under Assumptions and the comparison may flip.

Frequently asked questions

How is take-home salary calculated in India?

Take-home = gross salary − employee PF − professional tax − income tax. Gross salary is CTC less the employer's PF contribution and any gratuity accrual included in the package.

What is take-home pay on a ₹24 LPA salary?

Roughly ₹ 1,54,545 a month under the new regime, on a gross of ₹ 22,56,000 and annual tax of ₹ 2,55,060.

Can I increase my take-home without a raise?

Sometimes. A lower basic pay percentage reduces your PF deduction, which raises take-home immediately at the cost of a smaller retirement corpus. Choosing the right tax regime can also matter by a lakh or more a year at higher salaries.

Does take-home change month to month?

Often, yes. Employers usually spread annual tax evenly, but it is recomputed when you declare investments, when variable pay is credited, and in the last quarter if your declarations fall short of your proofs. This calculator shows the even monthly average.
